Counselor Professors

According to the national legislation on the operation of Higher Education,

The counselor professor guides and supports the students throughout their study program. All academic staff members undertake the role of counselor professor on a rotating basis, as detailed in the relevant Rules and Regulations item of the Institution.”

The PUAS Rules and Regulations Guide defines that

“(a) The General Assembly of the Department assigns counselor professor duties to its academic staff members for each and every academic year. Student counseling aims to facilitate the students’ smooth transition from secondary to higher education, to guide and support them in order to promptly and successfully complete their study program and particularly to aid and support students with special needs, or students facing difficulties that threaten the completion of their studies. The Secretariat of the Department distributes the list of students assigned to each academic staff member for counseling during the process of matriculation of incoming first-year students. The student may file with the General Assembly a petition to change his/her counselor after his/her first year of study.

(b) All academic staff members are expected to support counselor professors in their counseling duties. Counselor professors are expected to be available for student counseling for at least one hour per week. In return, they are relieved from other administrative duties, partially or in whole.

The Department of Electronics Engineering has put the counselor professor concept into pilot use in 2011-12 and into regular use ever since. Incoming first-year students may look up their personal counselor professor in the following list:
